Sustainability is one of the core values at Wegnalls Willow Coffins and it is woven into everything I do. From planting and harvesting the homegrown willow, to carefully weaving each coffin with love, every choice is made with the planet and the families I work with in mind.
That’s why I’m so delighted to share some exciting news… Wegnalls Willow Coffins has achieved the Platinum Sustainability award, which the highest level of the Greener Globe Funeral Standard. This recognition means so much to me because it acknowledges the hard work, care and dedication that goes into making willow coffins that are as environmentally friendly as possible.
What is the Greener Globe Funeral Standard?
The Greener Globe Funeral Standard is a sustainability audit scheme. It has been developed specifically for cemeteries, crematoria, funeral directors and suppliers. Businesses that earn this award can proudly showcase their commitment to minimising environmental impact.
It is also the first and only environmental standard in the funeral sector.
How do the awards work?
The first step is to adopt an environmental policy and this qualifies for the Suppliers Bronze Award.
Next there is an in-depth Sustainability Audit Questionnaire. This examines all parts of the business including the premises, administration, manufacturing / supply and waste. Along with the supporting evidence you provide, this is used to identify the areas which are already sustainable and those where further work is required.
The Audit is scored by ISO 14001 qualified auditors resulting in Silver, Gold or Platinum Awards.
So what next?
Achieving the Platinum Sustainability award is not the end of the journey. I have a bespoke improvement plan with areas in which I can develop to become more sustainable in my practice. The audit will be assessed annually and hopefully there will be continual improvement year on year.
